A consultant presented a Community Rating System (CRS) audit and a roadmap for flood-resilience work in North Bay Village. The consultant said the village currently holds CRS class 8 and that moving to class 6 would reduce residents’ flood-insurance premiums and strengthen community flood protections.
"Our goal is to get you all to a class 6 by 2025," the consultant said, listing activities such as enhanced public information, mapping and a watershed master plan. He said the village has submitted items and that the next verification visit is scheduled for 2026; implementation in 2025 would cost roughly $30,000–$50,000 for outreach and program activities and more if a watershed/master plan study is required.
Commissioners and staff discussed pursuing a state planning grant (applications due at month’s end) to fund a watershed master plan and seawall vulnerability work. The manager and consultants said they will coordinate grant applications and present detailed scopes and budgets in follow-up briefings.
