Tamworth Energy Committee explores alternatives after T-Mobile grant denial for EV chargers

The Tamworth Energy Committee recorded that the T-Mobile grant application for EV chargers was denied and immediately pivoted to alternative funding options at its Feb. 24, 2026 meeting. Committee members discussed using a Northern Border Regional Commission program that could provide up to 50% matching for eligible recreation and mobility projects, noting EV chargers could be appended to such a project.
The committee noted congressional directed funding does not cover EV chargers and discussed local options. John Kumm was assigned to follow up with Paul Chant regarding the Tamworth Foundation's willingness to provide partial or seed funding. Members also discussed soliciting smaller private donations to place into the town trust as seed money while pursuing larger matching and grant opportunities.
