Westfir water report flags coliform exceedance; staff to inspect pump/plunger

At the July 6 meeting, Robert Archer presented the water and wastewater monthly report and confirmed a coliform exceedance on the most recent wastewater sample. Archer reported water production of 1,275,100 total gallons for the period (about 42,503 gallons per day) and wastewater totals of 105,950 gallons (about 3,532 gallons per day).
Archer said operations staff suspect a large plunger/buoy inside a recirculation tank is not seating properly, allowing effluent to flow through too quickly and reducing settling time. "There's, like, a big plunger in there that we probably needs replaced because I I doubt it's ever been replaced...it's not doing its job right now," he said. Archer and another staff member plan to inspect the recirculation tanks and trickling filters and replace the device if needed to return the plant to typical settling times.
Councilors asked whether cleaning trickling filters was required; Archer said they will examine filters as part of the troubleshooting and will report back with repair needs and costs. There were no immediate service interruptions reported.
