Mr. Goldblum, who described Concerts in the Park as a longstanding nonprofit effort that collects demographic surveys and pursues sponsorships, told the council the events have local economic impact and that organizers are not relying solely on RTMP funding: "we continue to to to make it a free event for, the underserved residents of the area," he said. The presenter noted two small grants of $1,000 each and said booking and sound costs run about $2,500 per event.
Council discussion focused on whether the RTMP budget should subsidize events that have historically recurred year after year. One councilor urged a review of RTMP rules for "legacy" events at a future work session before committing to recurring support; another councilor said the $2,500 request represented a reasonable community investment. The council also agreed to add the Concerts-in-the-Park payment to the monthly expenditure sheet for formal approval.
The organizer was invited to return with any clarifying budget details; councilors asked staff to place legacy-event funding policies on a future agenda for clearer guidelines.
