Commissioners reappoint members, hear Combined Communications annual report and equipment needs

Commissioners unanimously reappointed Clark Allred to the Sweetwater County Combined Communications Joint Powers Board and approved several other routine board appointments. The board also received the 2024 annual report from Combined Communications IT director David Halter, who is serving as interim executive director.
Halter reported 14,813 9-1-1 calls in 2024, improvements in wireless location accuracy (phase 2) and RapidSOS location adoption, plus ongoing projects: server upgrades, microwave link replacements and implementation of multifactor authentication to meet federal security requirements. He highlighted a mobile repeater trailer as an objective that could have helped during the recent tunnel incident and said the center has applied for impact-assistance funds for that equipment.
Commissioners thanked dispatch staff for their work during recent emergencies and encouraged participation in Smart911 and facility profiles to improve response. Reappointments and other board appointments were approved unanimously.
