Commissioners certify zoning amendments, adopt 2024 International Fire Code

The Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners on Feb. 18 certified amendments to the countyzoning resolution (Resolution 2,502 CC-01), including adoption of the 2024 International Fire Code and new definitions for clarity in land-use applications. Land use director Eric Bingham told the commission the RV section was referred back to staff and the Planning and Zoning Commission for more work.
"We are adopting the 2024 international fire code," Eric Bingham said during the public hearing presentation, adding that state law requires the county to adopt the same code used by the State Fire Marshal's Office. Bingham also said the 45-day public comment period had lapsed with no written comments received.
Commissioner Richards moved to certify the resolution and approve the amended rules and regulations; Commissioner Toman seconded. Chair called for the vote and the motion passed unanimously. The board noted staff will hold workshops to refine the RV provisions before returning them for further consideration.
The certification recognizes both the fire-code update (a state-driven alignment) and a package of definitional changes aimed at giving staff clearer guidance when processing land-use applications. Eric Bingham told the board the RV section was "a can of worms" and needs additional public workshops before any adoption.
Next steps: staff will schedule workshops to revise the RV section and bring any substantive changes back to the commission for formal consideration.
