At its Oct. 9 meeting the Vernonia School District Board approved Policy JFCEB and its administrative regulation on personal electronic devices for students.
Policy materials presented to the board described the mandate and implementation timeline and noted the policy applies during the school day — including field trips held during the school day — and that after‑school athletic trips are exempt. The materials state the cell phone ban is in effect "bell-to-bell" each day. The board moved and approved the policy by unanimous vote among members present.
Administrators said the district has observed positive effects on student engagement during preliminary implementation work. The board set a final adoption deadline of Oct. 31 and full implementation by Jan. 1, 2026.
The district will publish administrative procedures and exception request processes; the administrative regulation for device exceptions was part of the approval.
