Sweetwater County approves letter to Rep. Hageman urging RMP revisions to ease resource development

County land-use director Eric Bingham and county legal staff presented a draft letter intended for Congresswoman Harriet Hageman and BLM leadership asking that revisions to the Rock Springs Resource Management Plan (RMP) align with presidential and secretarial orders focused on removing impediments to natural-resource development.
Bingham said the county and stakeholders reviewed alternatives in the final EIS and recommended alternatives and connected management actions intended to preserve leasable resources while narrowing or modifying special designations such as areas of critical environmental concern. "The big thing takeaway from those executive orders and secretarial orders is removal of impediments on development of our natural resources. That's what our focus was when we went through the different management actions and alternatives," Bingham said. He noted Rocky Mountain Power had suggested some alternate language and he planned a small set of edits.
Commissioners discussed distribution of the letter and ensuring copies go to federal decision-makers in Washington, D.C.; Commissioner Toman noted the commission previously hand-delivered similar comments. Chairman West moved to approve the draft as amended; the commission voted unanimously to approve the letter for signature and transmittal to the Congresswoman and BLM.
