Two local publishers presented competing bids to be Sweetwater County’s 2025 newspaper of record. Rocket Miner representatives (Brian, speaker 17, and Flo McDonald, speaker 3) described a $5 per column-inch offer, a recent computer-system upgrade and a paid print circulation of 1,153 plus 109 online county readers. The Green River Star's representative Jackie (speaker 13) emphasized dependability and said the Star's paid circulation is 2,442 with paid electronic readers of 316.
Commissioner Toman moved to continue the contract with the Green River Star; Commissioner Slaughter seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Chair West thanked both applicants for their commitment to covering county news.
Why it matters: The county's newspaper of record publishes statutory legal notices; reliability and timely publication are important because publication timing affects land-use permitting and other legal processes.
Next steps: The county will publish official legals in the Green River Star for 2025 and continue routine coordination between county staff and the paper's staff.
