Superintendent reports summer school plans, school renovations and new discipline review policy

Superintendent LuVona Copeland told the board the district is preparing for summer school and that Primary and Dunbar schools have been deep-cleaned and repainted. At Dunbar, cafeteria floor tiles were removed, the floors were sanded and will be sealed, and Floor Liquidators supplied baseboards to complete renovations, Copeland said. She also reported that the new high school is receiving a new roof and the old band room will be converted to serve as the high school cafeteria when students return to campus.

Copeland said the district has been conducting interviews and hiring new teachers. She also announced a new student-discipline review policy that will require two uninvolved teachers to review incidents to provide an unbiased decision. Board President Keith Baldridge, after visiting Dunbar's cafeteria, described the facility as "immaculate." Board member Vickie Jones added that Ann Moroney Youth Services is available for counseling for students in need.
