City plans Nov. 13 centennial celebration for City Hall and local landmarks

Deputy City Clerk Katie Rogers briefed the council on planning for the centennial of City Hall and two other local landmarks. Staff are coordinating with Okeechobee County and community members to host a community-wide event on Friday evening, Nov. 13, 2026, with a 1926 theme that could include food trucks, a scavenger-hunt tour of City Hall, face painting, costume contests and a photo booth.
Executive Assistant Jacqueline Boer confirmed Flagler Park tree lights could be lit by Nov. 13 and the council discussed aligning other holiday lighting with the regular tree-lighting ceremony on Dec. 1. Mayor Dowling R. Watford, Jr. asked staff to contact the family of the City Hall architect and offered a personal $100 reward for the first authentic photograph locating W. E. Holmes for the council 'Wall of Mayors.' The report was informational and staff will continue planning with county partners and community volunteers.
