Douglass Township police present 2024 annual report, endorse seeking radar-gun authority

Chief Robert Evans presented the Douglass Township Police Department's 2024 annual report, noting that the department received reaccreditation and had a busy year of calls. "February 5th, 2024 we were re-accredited for the 7th time, and will be due again in February 2027 for the years 2024-2026," Evans said. He also reported that the department achieved Premier Agency status with the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC) and welcomed a new patrolman, Mark Delaney.
Evans told the Board the department responded to 7,817 calls for service in 2024, covering crimes, animal complaints, domestic incidents, mutual aid and other calls; those counts exclude traffic stops, administrative reports and court hearings. The Board discussed speed enforcement tools after Evans noted public concern over radar use: "A radar gun would be helpful with speeding; however, public perception feels that the reason for a radar gun would be for increased revenue," he said. Chairman Josh Stouch said he would draft a resolution to support legislation that would clarify municipal authority to use radar devices. Evans also notified the Board he will be out of the office Feb. 10—Mar. 3 for a surgical procedure and that Sgt. Matthew Swavely will serve as officer in charge while he is away.
