Assistant Town Administrator Grant Handley told the board that the Old Lock‑Up open house on July 3 attracted 27 visitors and that a Cecil Whig story highlighted the reopening. Handley said, "As everyone is aware, the Welcome to North East sign fell victim to a drunk driver," and staff are working with insurance parties to resolve the damage.
Handley also reported that the town is compliant with Maryland SB871 cybersecurity requirements and that he is coordinating with auditors on an IT audit. Staff hosted representatives from the State Office of Rural Economic Strategy and the Department of Commerce at the North East Preserve to advocate for the site, and the town is conducting a formal bid process for snow removal services. An intern, Payton Hardy, is scheduled to present at the next meeting.
