Private roads complicate flood relief on Westfir’s 1st and 2nd streets, residents say

A 1st Street property owner told the council that McClain Creek overflow and stormwater accumulation after heavy rain are causing localized flooding; because the roads are private, Lane County will not manage the stormwater and the council agreed to let staff assist with maps and a drain inspection.
Adam Kennedy, who said he has owned a property on 1st Street since June, told the council the neighborhood sees minor stormwater accumulation after high-intensity rain events and that McClain Creek overflow is a likely source. Kennedy said he was researching community history and provided plat maps and county records to the Council.
Councilors noted that 1st and 2nd streets are private and therefore not eligible for county stormwater management. The Council directed City Operator Bobby Archer to help Kennedy access waterline maps and to examine a storm drain as a first step. No funding or formal project was approved at the meeting.
