Westfir council adopts water distribution feasibility study to guide upgrades

The Westfir City Council unanimously adopted a Water Distribution System Evaluation Feasibility Study by Civil West Engineering (dated Sept. 24, 2024), a step officials said is required to qualify for state funding and plan future repairs and mapping.
The Westfir City Council voted 5–0 on Oct. 7 to adopt a Water Distribution System Evaluation Feasibility Study prepared by Civil West Engineering Services and dated Sept. 24, 2024. Mayor D’Lynn Williams moved to adopt the study; the motion carried with Councilors Packard, Bishop, Huey and Johnstone voting in favor.
The study was funded by a Sustainable Infrastructure Planning Project grant through the Safe Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund, and City Recorder Nicole Tritten said she had requested the final disbursement for the completed study. Nicole told the Council that Business Oregon requires a 30–60-minute monitoring meeting for the project and that DEQ recommended a kickoff meeting for the city’s related Wastewater Facilities Plan that would include DEQ representatives and the Civil West project lead, Clinton Cheney.
Council members said the study will help the city map the distribution system and plan projects that may be eligible for state funding. The council did not vote on specific capital work at the meeting; adoption of the study is an administrative step that allows staff to pursue funding and next-phase planning.
