Westfir council adopts $1.43 million budget, elects to receive state revenue-sharing funds

The Westfir City Council on June 17 adopted its fiscal year 2026–27 budget, approving total appropriations that staff read into the record as $1,426,433. Joel, who read the resolution text on the council—loor, explained the measures also elect the city "to receive state revenues for the fiscal year 2026 and 2027."
The resolution (No. 582) approves appropriations across multiple funds, including a general fund requirement of $271,690, a water fund at $126,396 and a sewer fund at $114,336. After a motion and second, the council recorded unanimous "Aye" votes from Mayor Watson, Councilor Huey, Councilor Cheatham and Councilor Morpade and the presiding officer declared the motion carried. The council then approved Resolution No. 582.1, which certifies the city provides the municipal services required under ORS 221.760 so it may receive state shared revenues.
Why this matters: the action finalizes the city—udget and the formal election to accept state-shared funds, which staff said increases available resources in specified funds and affects how interfund transfers are treated in the coming year. Staff also noted several technical edits to line items and reserves that slightly reduced the adopted total from earlier drafts.
