County, towns coordinate on drought, possible burn restrictions and fireworks limits ahead of July 4

Mayor Knight of Manila told the commission she will propose an ordinance to ban fireworks in town except at the fairgrounds and hopes the council will act before July 4. "We're going to put a ordinance out that there'll be no fireworks other than at the fairgrounds," she said. Commissioners discussed restricting aerial fireworks by permit, piggybacking a county statement so towns can align messaging, and drafting ordinance language that limits aerial devices that "leave the ground." The district representative agreed to raise the issue at the district's next meeting and to work with towns and county staff to produce recommended language for formal county action.
