Selectboard hears summer roadwork totals; resident urges vegetation management to reduce ditching

Reported totals included Regan Road 45 loads, Gibou Road 49 loads, Hill West 114 loads, Montgomery Heights 87 loads and Amidon Road 411 loads; culvert replacements were recorded for Gibou (1), Fisher Road (1), Montgomery Heights (1) and Amidon Road (4). The report said priorities and staffing (return to a three-person road crew) will determine upcoming work.
Resident Roberta Baker urged proactive vegetation management to reduce recurring ditching and erosion, suggesting the town clear small trees, brush and shrubs on one to two roads per year. "Is there a way to proactively stop dirt from flowing into ditches so as not to necessitate ditching as frequently," she asked, and the board (Charlie) said he would seek estimates and try to incorporate the work into road planning. The board will consider cost estimates and scheduling as part of its public works planning.
