Planning commission reviews two‑lot subdivision adjacent to Galesburg
Summary
Staff told the Planning and Zoning Commission that a proposed two‑lot minor plat just outside the city limits would create a 2.56‑acre lot and a roughly 72.87‑acre remainder; the development review committee recommended approval pending a legal‑description correction and confirmation of utility contacts, and the recommendation will go to City Council on Nov. 4.

The Galesburg Planning and Zoning Commission reviewed a proposed minor subdivision just outside the city limits that would create two lots, staff said. "It is just outside the city limits, but it's within a mile and 0.5," staff member Steve said, describing the parcel as contiguous with city boundaries and therefore subject to commission review.
Steve told commissioners the proposal would create Proposed Lot 3 at approximately 2.56 acres — described as the tract between two houses fronting on Fremont — and a southern remainder of about 72.87 acres. He said the development review committee reviewed the minor plat on Oct. 2 and "recommend[ed] approval, contingent upon a minor correction of the legal description, and confirmation of... contact with the utility companies," which staff reported has since been provided. Staff said the commission's recommendation would go to City Council on Nov. 4.
Commissioners asked whether the applicants were present; no representative attended. The chair moved to proceed "based on the stipulations that the committee had." Staff noted that although applicants are required to be notified and encouraged to attend, "you can" vote in their absence if there are no outstanding questions. The transcript does not record a final vote on the motion to proceed.
Next steps recorded in the discussion: staff will forward the commission's recommendation and the corrected legal description to City Council for action on Nov. 4. The commission did not record a final decision on the subdivision during the segment captured in the transcript.
