Township salary ordinance set; council voted to move it forward and adopt
Summary
During a session sitting as the township board, council members discussed and approved an ordinance setting salaries for township officials, with some terms starting May 2025 and the township assessor term beginning Jan. 1, 2026.
After resolving to sit as the township board, the council considered township salary ordinance 249016 setting compensation for the township supervisor, trustees, clerk and assessor. Staff explained most salaries begin in May 2025 while the township assessor’s term and pay begin Jan. 1, 2026; the board moved the item to second reading and ultimately approved it by roll-call vote.
Staff advised that the township positions are being suggested to align with city classifications (for example, recommending the township assessor be at the same 24 EX classification as the city clerk). Council discussed the value of public review time and voted to allow the ordinance to proceed (some members voted to defer earlier to allow public input, but final roll-call approved the item).
