Galesburg to buy three demolished downtown parcels from Knox County trustee for $813 each

The Galesburg City Council voted Aug. 19 to purchase three parcels that the city previously demolished and that had come under Knox County trustee title. City staff recommended acquiring 314 South Henderson St., 29 Public Square (site of the Broadview demolition), and 91 West Simmons for $813 each, the minimum conveyance cost, so the city can return the parcels to productive use.
City Manager Hansen said those sites are now clear of liens because the trustee wiped liens when acquiring title and that funds are available in the property redevelopment fund to complete the purchases. Council approved the resolution unanimously. Hansen noted the city intends to use redevelopment funds and a previously approved environmental analysis on the former gas-station site to determine next steps.
