Staff recommended and the council approved a settlement and release arrangement in which USAA Recycling & Excavating LLC will repair and replace the sidewalk at 151 East Main Street that was damaged during a private demolition earlier in 2024. Insurance proceeds totaling $66,303 are currently held by the city and will be released to the contractor once the repairs are complete, according to staff.
Staff said the privately owned structure was demolished after a February 2024 fire and that a dispute had arisen over which contractor caused which portions of sidewalk damage; the settlement exchanges repair work for release of the insurance proceeds and aims to complete repairs before winter. The council approved the settlement unanimously (7–0).
