Activities coordinator reports lower-than-expected summer camp enrollment; board reviews fees

Activities Coordinator Maddie Dowty reported on the town’s summer camp, which runs June 15–July 31.
Dowty said enrollment is down from previous years: "80 total kids signed up - a bit down - only 10 signed up day of / 50 kids/day avg." She told the board that a larger share of participants are non-residents, many from Michigan City, and suggested the board consider surveying families about participation and pricing.
The minutes list the program fees as "$160 resident /$220 non-resident / we are lowest cost." Staff raised options including raising the non-resident fee, keeping early-bird pricing the same while charging a higher late rate, or surveying users to inform changes.
Dowty also briefed the board on related summer programming: two library presentations in July, a LaPorte County Park Department bug presentation, and a July 3 outdoor movie screening of Lilo & Stitch at 6:30 p.m.
Board members did not record any final fee changes in the minutes; staff was asked to continue monitoring enrollment and report back.
