Park board approves decking extension to level Stop 22 steps

The Long Beach Parks & Recreation Board voted June 23 to hire Freddie Solwood Associates to extend wooden decking to the metal grate at Stop 22 to level the stair treads.
PW moved to authorize the decking extension and ME seconded; "PW move to have Freddie Solwood Assoc. extend," the minutes record. The motion carried with all in favor. TG joined PW and ME for the approval during roll call.
The action followed earlier discussion of maintenance needs at several Stops. During public comment, resident Mary Claire Loftus of 2202 Chastleton Drive said she was "concerned with safety of Stop 22 steps," noting the new steps are 30 inches wide while 42-inch-wide steps had been expected. Loftus also said neighbors have offered to donate money to improve the steps.
Board members discussed related repair needs at other Stops, including sand removal and a hole in a board by the bike rack at Stop 22. The board did not set a separate funding vote in the minutes; the motion approved contracting Freddie Solwood Associates to extend the decking.
The board will continue to track related maintenance work and review any follow-up reports at future meetings; the next regular meeting is July 28 at 6 p.m. in the Town Center.
