Galesburg City Council unanimously approved a joint funding agreement Sept. 16 to accept Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) ITEP funds and advance construction of the Lake Storey multiuse path.
City staff said the funding agreement includes $1,794,975 in IDOT ITEP funds plus $117,009.43 in state-only funds for the construction phase, and that the city is responsible for the remaining estimated construction cost of about $230,000. "The subject funding agreement with IDOT will provide Illinois transportation enhancement program funds in the amount of $1,794,975 as well as an additional $117,009.43 in state only funds for the construction phase of the project," Hansen said.
Staff described the project as completing the loop around Lake Storey Park with a 4.5–5 mile trail, and said the project will be bid on IDOT's November letting. Council members expressed community enthusiasm and support and the consent item passed 7-0. Staff said the project will be bid later this year and that the city will maintain the new multiuse path once constructed.
