McMinnville police pilot youth recognition program with local ice-cream shop

"If a McMinnville Police officer catches a young person doing the right thing, we have the opportunity to give them a business card, and they can take that card to Serendipity Ice Cream, and they can get themselves a free ice cream," Chief Wood said. He recognized Officer Huey and a Serendipity representative for helping launch the program.
The program is framed as a positive, low-cost way for officers to build relationships with young people and to publicly reward pro-social behavior. Councilors and the mayor praised the partnership and asked for implementation details to be shared with schools and youth partners.
