Council approves software, vehicles and equipment purchases for transit, fire and police

During its Aug. 5 meeting, the Galesburg City Council approved several procurement items spanning transit operations, building maintenance, fire department fleet replacement and police vehicle equipment.
Key approvals included: dispatch software for public transportation from CTS Software for $77,756 (funded by a Rebuild Illinois Round 2 grant); carpet replacement on the 4th floor of the Public Safety Building from Breslin Floor Covering for $32,028.85; purchase of a 2025 1/2-ton pickup for the Fire Department from Yem's Chevrolet for $43,009.99; purchase of two 2025 Ford Interceptor AWD utility vehicles from Bob Ridings, Inc. for $91,007.66; and authorization to install radios, computers, cameras, lights and sirens in 16 police vehicles at an estimated cost of $71,200 using Supreme Radio.
Staff told the council that the dispatch software will support bus routing and can be updated when route changes follow a planned transit study. The police-equipment purchase will transfer equipment from existing vehicles for 12 units and purchase new equipment for four additional units. Council members asked about hybrid vehicle options for the fire fleet; staff said cost and submitted bids drove selection. All items were approved by roll call (each 7-0).
