Sheriff Grosnickle recounted that Skyler kept his teammate Ethan Visart’s airway above water, alerted lifeguards and helped guide first responders to the facility. "Skyler's swift and selfless actions were instrumental in inverting a potentially tragic outcome," the sheriff said, and asked the board to join in expressing gratitude. Ethan, who spoke briefly, said he didn’t remember the incident but was grateful and called Skyler "a godsend." Commissioners praised the young man and noted the family’s appreciation.
The board paused regular business for photos and public recognition. No formal vote was required for the award presentation.
