Commissioners reallocate $100,000 in forfeited capital funds to RTU project; chair abstains

The commissioners approved reallocation of $100,000 in forfeited capital project funds to a county RTU project after accounting staff listed completed projects that forfeited funds totaling $101,484.97.
Accounting specialist Rebecca Romero said the list and amounts were in the memo and that $100,000 would be moved to the RTU project to help reach the funding needed to finish the work this fiscal year. "The total forfeit is 101,484.97. However we are only reallocating a 100,000 of that to the RTU project," Romero said.
When the board voted, one commissioner abstained. The chair explained he was abstaining because his employer has the rooftop unit project for the detention center, creating a potential conflict; the motion passed 3–1. Commissioners noted the remaining funds and further allocations will be discussed in the FY2026 budget process.
