The Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously Dec. 17 to approve a zoning map amendment requested by Mountain West Overthrust Pipeline LLC and Cindy Sheehan that changes small parcels from agricultural and heavy industrial zoning to solely heavy industrial.
Cassidy Brent, the county planner, told the board staff concluded the change would "encourage growth and development to continue in an orderly manner" and that the request conforms to the 2015 Sweetwater County zoning resolution. She said the Planning and Zoning Commission had recommended approval 4–0. "This will just allow for more uniform expansion in the future and just, kinda simplify the process for Mountain West as they look to expand," Brent said.
No members of the public spoke during the required public hearing and the board approved the resolution without objection. The change reduces the need for repeated zone‑map amendments and would allow the applicant to pursue standard permitting for future expansion.
