The commission reconvened April 30 to continue work on a revised sign ordinance. Staff presented suggested language taken from Spring Garden Township's Sign Ordinance Section 310-13, including a minimum height for projecting signs and limits on how far wall signs may extend. The draft called for projecting signs to "not be less than nine feet six inches above the pavement or the ground," to restrict signs that project over streets unless authorized, and to limit projecting distance and wall overhangs.
Members agreed to remove some illumination provisions while retaining standards that prevent sign lighting from directing or reflecting onto adjacent residences or distracting motorists. The draft also considered adjusting a 200-foot traffic-signal radius provision and a cap on nameplate illumination wattage (with the possibility of changing to lumens). With no further business, the work session adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
