Tate Kibler asked the commission for a variance to erect a 48" x 48" illuminated sign at 411 S. Main St., a property in a residential town zone that formerly housed a medical office. "Requesting a sign variance at the residential town zoned property (411 S. Main St, previously Dr. Payne’s office) for a 48” x 48” illuminated sign," the minutes state.
Members noted the borough's revised sign ordinance may allow a 4-foot square sign but raised concerns about light disturbing nearby residents. The commission voted to recommend denial; commissioners added that if the Zoning Hearing Board approves the variance, the Planning Commission recommends a condition that illumination end at 10 p.m. The motion to recommend denial was moved by Cindy Barley and seconded by Evan Hiester; the minutes record the vote as "All in favor; motion carried."
