Committee approves technical cleanup to medical assistance rules (HB 2044)

The sponsor told the committee the bill adds physician assistants as authorized providers who may delegate tasks to certified medical assistants, clarifies clinic responsibilities for training and competency verification, and updates inclusion/exclusion lists for medical-assistant activities.
The sponsor said the bill also modernizes medication rules to allow medical assistants to work with single-dose and multi-dose medications when a provider orders a specific dose. "HB 2044 is a simple, necessary cleanup bill that brings last year's medical assistance legislation fully in line with real clinical practices," the sponsor said. The committee voted 24–0 to advance the bill to Government Operations as amended.
