A bipartisan panel advanced House Bill 13,69 after the sponsor said the measure would require the Department of Health, in collaboration with the Department of Human Services, to make educational materials available to pregnant women receiving WIC vouchers about blood lead level testing, mitigation strategies and wraparound services for elevated levels. The sponsor told the committee the material is intended to protect maternal and child health and connect patients with existing nutrition and mitigation services.
Committee members had no substantive objections and the bill moved on to the education committee as amended after a recorded vote (17 ayes, 3 nays, 1 present not voting).
