Roxbury accepts Steve Swasey Inc. bid for winter sand; estimated cost about $25,000

The Town of Roxbury Board of Selectmen on Sept. 10 voted unanimously to accept a winter sand bid from Steve Swasey Inc. The company’s quoted price was $17.95 per cubic yard for sand delivered and $6.00 per cubic yard to mix with salt.
Selectman Timothy Derouche moved to accept the single bid; Selectman Matthew Patneaude seconded the motion and the vote was 3-0. The board noted that if the town purchased the full 1,000 cubic yards included in planning estimates, the outlay would be about $25,000 and that there are already three loads of salt in the town shed.
The decision allows Swasey’s crew to begin work immediately, the board said. The award covers sand supply and mixing only; the town did not discuss additional hauling or spreading costs in detail. The action came during the meeting’s New Business discussion of winter roads and equipment readiness.
