Chairman Leonard Correa and Commissioner Delaine Finlay expressed concern about home-based businesses that involve parking large commercial vehicles on residential properties in the R-1-18 zone. Finlay said she had "observed multiple large commercial trucks, including semis, parked on a single block near her neighborhood, some of which appeared to be associated with a business headquartered out of state rather than a locally licensed home occupation." The commissioners noted potential cumulative impacts on approaches, sidewalks and city infrastructure.
City Manager Ryan Robinson acknowledged the issue and recommended the city revisit both the home-occupation permit standards and the off-street parking ordinance; he said he would "bring both the parking ordinance and home occupation permit sections back for review at a future meeting." The Chair noted that while larger lots may accommodate such vehicles with less impact, the overall effect across neighborhoods could be significant. No formal ordinance change was passed at this meeting; staff will return with recommended options.
