The Missouri City Council unanimously approved May 18 an amendment to Specific Use Permit (SUP) 169 to allow a Fort Bend County–funded event center and limited library uses on approximately 16.25 acres in the Sienna corridor near Sienna Springs Boulevard and Sienna Springs Way.
Assistant City Manager Shashi Kumar told the council the proposed facility would be about 16,500 square feet with indoor assembly space, an outdoor pavilion and ancillary rooms, and that staff had designed access and traffic mitigations to limit neighborhood impacts. He said the facility is "designed to accommodate about 600 people, and we're told this is kind of a multiuse facility to serve various events and, opportunities across Fort Bend County."
Shashi and county representatives emphasized multiple access points and a planned roadway extension (Trammel Fresno) to tie into the site. Shashi said the ordinance includes a binding requirement: "The ordinance stipulates that before the issuance of CO for this facility, the county agrees to build a signal." Councilmembers asked about outdoor uses and noise; the county representative described the outdoor open space as flexible for gatherings such as a wedding or a state-of-the-city event and said there would be no audio-visual concert setup in the patio area.
Council voted unanimously to approve the SUP amendment. The ordinance also includes language to ensure the county funds and constructs a traffic signal prior to a certificate of occupancy for the event center.
