Ellendale council approves clothing stipend, donations and purchase for fire responders

The Ellendale City Council approved three resolutions related to emergency services and accepted equipment purchases at its May 14 meeting. The council approved Resolution 2026-15 (first-quarter fire department emergency responder clothing stipend), Resolution 2026-16 (authorizing donation of money from the Ellendale Fire Relief Association), and Resolution 2026-17 (recognizing forthcoming state ambulance funds). All three passed by voice vote with all members in favor.
Fire Chief Logan Busho reported operational items to the council: damaged lockers (vendor agreed to a $3,000 deduction on an approximately $8,500 charge) and options for fire-run reporting via LOGIS (a VPN option at about $180 per year versus moving the existing IP line at higher cost). On equipment, Busho described a piercing nozzle to replace a homemade tool: “The new ones can pierce through tin, saving time… Great Plains quoted me $1,155.24.” Mayor Groth moved to approve that purchase; the motion was advanced by Council Member Asplund and passed by roll call.
Busho also reported the department has received donated Milwaukee tools and a toolbox, has a current roster of 20 members, and is evaluating a trailer purchase for ice- and grain-rescue equipment with $7,000 pledged by the Fire Relief Association. Council discussion noted possible future needs for a pickup to tow the trailer and follow-up on tanker repairs.
