Staff warns council of posting deadlines; August 28 is target for final adoption but timeline has flexibility
Summary
Staff told the council that statute '19 2 7' requires posting the final form of code changes at least seven days before the council meeting where action is taken; staff asked for language to be ready for the August 28 meeting but said the team can push adoption later if necessary to meet December publication deadlines.

Staff reminded the Building Code Council of statutory posting and publication timelines and urged the council to provide direction on draft language so staff can meet posting deadlines for final action.
"We have statute in 19 2 7 that requires us to post the final form of what the code changes will be at least 7 days before the council meeting in which we take that final action," Staff member said, urging the council to aim for draft recommendations ahead of an August 28 council meeting. Staff added the team needs to manage the publication schedule to meet a desired January publication and a planned implementation date of May 3, 2027, while noting that final adoption could slip into September or meet a December statutory deadline if necessary.
Council members asked about additional scheduled work sessions in early August and directed staff to continue the heavy lift over the next two weeks to prepare draft postings and to use August 18 and 21 internally as necessary to meet public‑posting timelines.
