Nassau CDBG grant will fund Main Street pole removal and downtown sign program

Mayor Ralph Ekstrand told trustees the village will receive $500,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from Nassau County for the 2024–2025 cycle, the largest award in recent history for the village. According to the minutes, $400,000 of the award will be used toward the pole-removal project on Main Street and $100,000 will support a Sign, Light & Awning program for downtown businesses.
The minutes also record that a deposit has been paid to PSEG Long Island to enable final plans and the initial payment for the Main Street pole-removal project, which will run from Conklin Street to South Front Street. Separately, the building department said a National Grid grant application for street trees and planter boxes of approximately $10,000 has been submitted and the village is awaiting a response.
