The Lake Lure Town Council approved Phase 2 of the Lake Reopening Plan, allowing public ramps to reopen and towing activities to resume while fueling pumps and certain marina slips remain closed pending completion. Town Manager Olivia Stewman recommended the move after concluding SMART Program operations and lifting the no-wake restriction on May 16, 2026.
Mayor Carol C. Pritchett welcomed the change and framed recent events as proof of recovery, saying, "the lake is beautiful, it's pure, it has fish in it, and it's ready for everyone to come and enjoy." Council members voted unanimously to implement Phase 2; commissioners also noted that temporary accommodations are being pursued for Lake Lure Tours ahead of holiday weekends. The town cautioned boaters that fueling remained unavailable and encouraged planning around those limits.
