Farmingdale reports AOP/GAC water upgrades, $1M county and $1.1M federal commitments
Summary

Village staff told the board that sampling, testing and calibration of the AOP/GAC systems at Wells 1–3 are underway and that Trojan will calibrate the advanced oxidation process to reflect contaminant levels. A new steel building to cover GAC tanks at Wells 1–3 was on site and scheduled to start construction on Sept. 26 with completion targeted for Nov. 15, 2024. The minutes record additional testing costs of approximately $16,000 per well for newly monitored contaminants.
On funding, the minutes state that County Legislator John Ferretti committed $1 million to offset costs of the new water-treatment systems and that a $500,000 payment was received. The minutes also say Congressman Thomas Suozzi informed the Village that a $1.1 million commitment has been secured in the 2025/2026 Federal Budget and that the commitment is "Not a reimbursement grant." Plant 2 construction remains on hold and a master schedule from PRI was requested; staff continue to pursue legal-settlement funds and potential federal and county funding to cover costs.
