Farmingdale secures multiple grants for Well 1‑3; testing and calibration of new treatment systems underway

Officials reported that sampling and testing for the AOP/GAC installation at Well 1‑3 is underway and that Trojan will calibrate the advanced oxidation process while the SCADA system is adjusted to reflect contaminant levels to meet health‑department requirements. A steel building to cover the GAC tanks is on site, with pilings complete and construction scheduled to begin in two weeks. Staff told the Board that additional testing for newly monitored contaminants is estimated at about $16,000 per well.
The Village has received $2.2 million in WIIA grant monies for Well 1‑3 and staff said a $1 million grant commitment from County Legislator John Ferretti has been signed to offset system costs. Village officials also reported that Congressman Thomas Suozzi informed the Village of a $1.1 million commitment secured in the 2025/2026 federal budget; minutes note this federal commitment is not a reimbursement grant. Deputy Clerk Daniel Ruckdeschel is following up on grant requirements for reimbursement and on submissions to secure additional funding from legal settlements and potential federal and county sources.
Plant 2 construction was reported to be on hold; staff said pipe installation and cut‑ins to the main trunk lines will be arranged by PRI once Well 1‑3 is fully operational and after peak pumping season. The Board heard that the Water Department has been managing a heavy pumping season using available wells and boosters while performing proactive maintenance.
Next steps noted for the project include completing the AOP calibration, finishing the GAC building, and processing grant reimbursement requirements with follow‑up by Deputy Clerk Ruckdeschel.
