Farmingdale Board cites $1M county grant and federal commitment for Well 1–3 water treatment

The Farmingdale Board of Trustees received an update on water treatment work at Wells 1–3 on Sept. 16, 2024, including testing, equipment installation and funding arrangements. John Falbo and Deputy Clerk Ruckdeschel reported that sampling and testing of the AOP/GAC installations are ongoing and that Trojan will calibrate the AOP to reflect contaminant levels; SCADA settings also must be adjusted to match the new treatment parameters. Board minutes note "additional testing costs for newly monitored contaminants at approximately $16,000 per well."
Board members also reviewed funding for the project. The minutes record that County Legislator John Ferretti committed $1 million toward the new systems, with an initial $500,000 payment received and the village following up on reimbursement requirements. The transcript further notes that "Congressman Thomas Suozzi has informed the Village that a $1.1 million commitment has been secured in the 2025/2026 Federal Budget," described in the minutes as not a reimbursement grant. The Board recorded receipt of WIIA grant funds of $2.2 million for Well 1–3 and said a new steel building to cover the GAC tanks is on site and scheduled for completion by Nov. 15, 2024.
Board members cautioned that Plant 2 construction is on hold pending full operation of Wells 1–3 and that additional federal, county or legal-settlement funding remains under review. "The initial payment of $500,000 was received," the minutes state; village staff were tasked with following up on grant reimbursement requirements.
