City of Murphy approves Atmos Energy rate increase negotiated with ACS coalition

The Murphy City Council unanimously approved Atmos Energy’s annual rate adjustment under the city’s rate review mechanism after the company and the ACS coalition negotiated the proposed increases downward.
Eva Hummel of Atmos Energy explained the RRM allows annual adjustments to recover investments in the gas delivery system. "The initial filing would have increased the average customer residential customer's bill by $9.34 per month and the average commercial bill by $30.70 per month," Hummel said. Subsequent negotiations with the ACS Coalition lowered those figures to an average residential increase of $7.83 per month and an average commercial increase of $25.73 per month.
Hummel said the MidTex division's capital investments this year were about $177,000,000 and that, through negotiation with cities and the coalition, the investment figure was adjusted to $148,900,000 for settlement purposes. She urged the council to approve the negotiated settlement, noting that the ACS Coalition gives member cities a seat at the negotiating table.
Councilors asked clarifying questions about the coalition and whether all participating municipalities receive a single negotiated residential rate; Hummel confirmed that the ACS settlement applies across participating municipalities. After brief discussion the council approved Item B as presented; the motion passed unanimously.
