City to design right-turn lane at FM 544 and McCreery ahead of new H-E-B

Murphy City Council unanimously approved a resolution Sept. 2 authorizing design work for right-turn improvements at the southwest corner of FM 544 and McCreery Road, a location in front of the CVS Pharmacy. Staff said the design would create stacking capacity for right-turning vehicles and allow for signal and striping modifications while coordinating with the city of Wylie.
Jared (staff) explained that the project is funded by the Murphy Municipal Development District and will address traffic flow as development — including an expected H-E-B — increases demand. Consultant Craig Kirkoff (design firm) told council the team would expedite work but must coordinate with utilities, signals and neighboring jurisdictions.
Council members asked whether the work would be complete before H-E-B opens; staff said the H-E-B timeline is June (next year) but that design and permitting processes may affect the schedule. The motion to authorize design work carried unanimously.
