Council approves up-to-$753,000 design contract for McMillan Road improvements

The Murphy City Council voted unanimously Sept. 2 to authorize the city manager to execute a professional engineering services agreement with Burkhoff, Hendricks & Carter (design firm referenced) for design work on McMillan Road improvements in an amount not to exceed $753,000.
Staff described the scope as a 37-foot concrete roadway with curb and gutter, an 8-foot trail on the north side, drainage improvements and a traffic signal at the intersection. Jared, the presenting staff member, said bridge widening is being considered and a flood study could determine additional work. He said the design phase would include necessary coordination and permitting.
Council members asked about timeline and coordination with adjacent jurisdictions and noted the project had been anticipated during the certificates of obligation sale earlier in the summer. The motion to approve the resolution carried without opposition.
