Murphy Veterans Tribute board seeks clarity as grant deadline nears

At the Sept. 2 council meeting, Miriam Lang, a board member of the Murphy Veterans Tribute, said the volunteer board is under a tight timeline to retain a Collin County Parks Commission grant and requested direction from the city manager on land-dedication paperwork and site progress.
Lang read an email from Mary Pat Elich that said the city had rescinded a prior land dedication as legally sufficient documentation, that the city would not consider further proclamations or resolutions at the Sept. 2 meeting, and that the city was not asking the MVT to raise funds beyond "approximately 50,000." Lang said the group had received no drawings and asked to meet with City Manager Aretha Adams before a Sept. 16 agenda item.
City staff offered to place the topic on the Sept. 16 agenda and to meet with the MVT board to discuss next steps. Council did not take formal action at the meeting but noted the veterans tribute will be addressed again in coming meetings.
