The presentation described how the new system supports a consolidated-service model that can integrate multiple providers, accommodate Uber/Lyft-style partners, and allow more flexible peak-period responses by bringing third-party operators into a brokered model. Staff said a micro-transit pilot in East and North Durham is set to resume in mid-October and the county will soon seek a new management, operations and maintenance agreement to reflect a larger, brokered service approach with multiple operators.
Commissioners asked about accessibility, sidewalk and pick-up/drop-off site issues. Presenters said the program is coordinating with transportation partners and community stakeholders, including Aging Well Durham and health-care providers, and that outreach to employers and stakeholders will be part of efforts to tailor micro-transit and peak service to shift workers.
