Arts commission requests $15,000 for Public Works mural; council receptive

Corey Haines presented the Arts Commission’s plan to place a mural on the Public Works building at Brown Station Way to celebrate the site’s history and beautify the area. Haines said he solicited a quote in the $13,000–$14,000 range and formally requested $15,000 from the town to cover artist fees and lighting so the mural is visible day and night.
Haines described a planned public RFP to reach local and regional artists and said he had worked with a local muralist who provided an initial estimate. Councilmembers expressed strong support for the idea and noted the town will apply for a $4,000 Indiana Arts Commission grant; the council asked staff to review the proposal and funding plan before formal approval.
The Arts Commission hopes to complete the mural this summer or early fall pending budget and grant results.
